What happens during a powerflush?
- Assess your system. Review radiator count, circulation, pipework and signs of contamination.
- Clean and flush. Use the CF90 and suitable cleaner, directing attention to individual radiators to help release settled sludge.
- Rinse and protect. Remove dirty water and cleaning residues, refill and add fresh corrosion inhibitor.
- Check and advise. Check operation and explain ongoing system care and any further work needed.
Your system-cleaning questions
When is a powerflush recommended?
Cold areas at the bottom of radiators, slow or uneven heating, recurring sludge and an unknown cleaning history are reasons to assess your system. These symptoms can have other causes, so Martin checks suitability before recommending a powerflush. An older system or ten years since cleaning is a reason to investigate, not an automatic requirement.
What does the £500 include?
The full-powerflush option adds £500 including VAT to your boiler installation: specialist Kamco CF90 cleaning, appropriate cleaning chemical, attention to individual radiators, thorough rinsing and fresh corrosion inhibitor. Martin confirms suitability and scope after assessing radiator count, system condition and layout. Standalone powerflushing is quoted separately.
Is a powerflush required for every new boiler?
No. Building Regulations guidance in England calls for thorough cleaning and flushing before a new heating appliance is installed, with suitable inhibitor and commissioning to BS 7593. The appropriate cleaning method depends on the system and the boiler manufacturer's instructions. A powerflush is one method; a suitable chemical clean and rinse can also be appropriate.
What is the difference between a chemical clean and a powerflush?
A conventional chemical clean uses an appropriate cleaner circulated through the system, followed by thorough rinsing. A powerflush uses a dedicated high-flow, low-pressure pump to help dislodge and remove contamination. Both need suitable chemicals, sufficient time, effective rinsing and inhibitor protection. Martin recommends the method appropriate to your system.

Read England's Approved Document L guidance, Baxi's explanation of sludge-related repair exclusions and Worcester Bosch's guarantee terms. These explain why proper cleaning and maintenance matter; they do not make powerflushing compulsory for every installation.
